Nunchucks, also known as "nunchaku", are two lengthwise pieces of wood connected by a short chain or rope. These weapons were invented in China and quickly became an essential weapon in martial arts during the late 17th century. Guns were soon introduced to Europe, which led to firearms being banned from 1835-1850.
As Europeans noticed that their fists and feet weren't as powerful or deadly as weapons, they increasingly began using their nunchaku with such force that they sometimes broke enemies' bones. This created a natural demand for new types of weapons such as swords and guns which could be used with enough precision to avoid any injuries.
Nunchucks are Powerful Weapons
Nunchucks are a weapon that has been fielded by Japanese warriors for centuries. A single blow can cause an enemy to be knocked unconscious, or even kill them if it's strong enough. This type of weapon also has a terrific amount of range. More often than not, the only defenses that opponents will have against a martial artist wielding nunchucks is to run away or block the strikes in front of their chest.
Fully loaded with these weapons and wearing protective gear such as helmets and shin guards, you are nearly unstoppable when striking blows at opponents from both sides. However, the drawback to nunchaku is they are not very effective weapons in close-quarter combat; your opponent doesn't need to be that close to you to knock you down with a strike.
This is where the red collarbone protector comes into play. It can save your life when you're not dealing with an enemy that is 300 meters away facing you. The red collarbone protector can be worn under a protective vest or jacket, and it can block against strikes that hit about 4-6 inches from your body.
Nunchaku's Dangers Include:
Movies and TV probably give you the impression that nunchucks are awesome weapons. They're not; in fact, they can be downright deadly. Here are detailed dangers related to nunchaku:
1. Powerful Strike:
This is a short length of wood or metal that is held in the hand ... With nunchaku, you've got a handle in each hand. Then you grab one end of the chain and swing it around, whacking stuff with the other end of the chain. The moment you make that contact, it's got tremendous power.
You can't hit as hard with a hammer, but then again, you don't have to be accurate - nunchaku are hammers attached to chains. The problem is that, unlike hammers, nunchaku are very light and easy to use; they are also silent (unlike hammers).
2. Rapid Attack:
These weapons can be very dangerous, but again, they're light and easy to carry and use. You can bring your hand down in the blink of an eye. And there is no way for you to "see" what's going on.
3. No-Weapon Defense:
Another thing about these weapons is that most people don't have any idea how to use them; they're so small, easy, and silent that it's basically impossible to defend yourself with them!
4. Defenseless Attackers:
This weapon attack is intense, but it doesn't usually harm the attacker much at all. Repeatedly hitting something will cause you to tire out, but the attacker will probably not get hurt too badly. Plus, they're so light and easy to carry that just about everyone has one handy!
5. Deadly Accuracy:
Because nunchucks are silent and light, they are extremely accurate weapons. The victim has no way of knowing what's happening until it is too late; then they've already been hit!
6. Hidden Danger:
You'd think that you could see "nunchucks" - especially if you're expecting an attack - which would allow you to defend yourself. Surprisingly, you can't. After all, the whole point of nunchucks is that they appear to be harmless, barely visible objects (like a purse or briefcase), so you don't know they're being used as weapons - until it's too late!
7. Inoffensive Look:
The danger in nunchaku is not just with their power but also with how normal they look. Nunchaku is there! You can see them and you may even be aware that they're dangerous, but because they look so innocent and unthreatening, your guard goes down and you don't expect an attack. This makes it easy for the attacker to get close enough to do any real damage!
Nunchucks are Illegal in Some Places!
The laws regarding these weapons aren't really clear and make it appear as if it's still illegal for you to possess them, which makes one wonder if they will be banned like they were in California in the 70s.
Baton twirling seems like a fun activity to do in the backyard, but unfortunately, the Federal Government has banned nunchucks from being sold to the general public. So why is this? Even though they are used for martial arts practices and not meant for children, it's still nearly impossible to raise your kids without owning a nunchuck.
This is a question that doesn't seem to have a concrete answer. After researching and asking around, there are a few common answers given:
- Nunchucks are "too dangerous".
- They can be used as weapons.
- They are illegal in the United States.
